For BMW R75, R80, R90 and R100
Make that old Boxer fly while standing still
Build a vintage caferacer cheap!
| | | | | | | | | CafeRace is making the Knoscher replica Caferacer tail section for 70s era airhead BMWs. We are pleased to announce that we now have an optional upholstery kit available for $79.
The upholstery kit includes:
The tailored vinyl skin to fit the fiberglass BMW Tail
A template to use as a uide for cutting the 2" motorcycle seat foam
Enough 2" motorcycle seat foam to get the job done
Delivered in hard-shell white gelcoat, ready for primer and paint, includes mounting bracket but will require that you upholster after you get the piece painted.
The upholstered skin is included, BUT THE SKIN IS NOT ATTACHED, AS WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU PAINT THE FIBERGLASS PIECE FIRST
The tail section fits "long frame" R-series bikes like R90 and R100 from at least 1973 to 1984 like a glove and has been fitted to the R75/5 and R80 as well with very minor trimming.
If you are unsure whether or not the seat pan will fit your bike, measure from the frame down tube under the gas tank to the very rear of the frame - our seat is about 30 inches long (plus about two inches of tongue that inserts into the frame under the tank
Total length = 30" Seat pan width at front = 7.5" at narrowest
Seat pan width at rear = 11" at widest Seat pan width at point where the vertical bumpstop begins = 11"
The metal bracket glassed into the rear of the tail fits directly over the back of the frame and is secured with one bolt.
Made in the USA!
Old beemers are super reliable and now they can be sexy too
| | | | | | | | | BMW's from the 70s are hugely reliable and can be found relatively inexpensively all over the country...great fodder for a cafe racer project.
What's a caferacer?
Basically, back in the London of the 50's people used to hang out in Coffee Bars/Pubs/Cafe's .....
You made your own entertainment then, and one form of that was putting a record on the jukebox, and racing a buddy of yours down the road on your stripped down bike. The point was to get back before your mate AND before the record ended.
The rider didn't really win anything except a cup of Java or a pint and of course bragging rights.
Things have changed but in Britain and especially London the Cafe racer scene is as strong as it ever was.
Cafe Racer essentially means racing from the cafe and back again. It is the ethos of stripped down bikes with clip-on handlebars, solo seats and a vintage version of the crouched riding position of the modern crotch rocket.
It is one of the few ways, other than cutomizing a Harley Davidson to to create a unique and distinguished bike of your own.
If you have a model you'd like to see made that we don't have, drop us a line and let us know. Email to edwest@caferace.com
We have a Triumph Thruxton kit coming out for 2001 and newer Triumph Bonnevilles as well
